about
‘Hold Me’ is as the name suggests - a celebration and examination of the grief, warmth and complexity of being in connection. Brought to life mostly by the arms and voices of Annie-Rose’s dearest friends themselves (a choir of fellow Naarm musicians including Angie McMahon, Olivia Hally, Ruby Gill and Jess Ellwood) the song consists of minimal physical elements - an acoustic guitar, a piano and backing vocals sung in a quiet circle. And yet somehow it feels remarkably immense
lyrics
You hurt me once, and I hurt you back
And from then on it was attack and attack
We fell apart, quicker than we knew
And I’m probably hurting every part of you
Hold me, Hold me, Hold me like you're never gona hurt me
Hold me, Hold me, Hold me like you're never gona hurt me
You rang me once, cos your mother yelled
Your dad just said yet again you’ve failed
I had your back
You had mine
Thought things were working out well this time
Hold me, Hold me, Hold me like you're never gona hurt me
Hold me, Hold me, Hold me like you're never gona hurt me
It didn’t work, fair enough
You had your things and I had my stuff
When you came alive, I sort of died
And I couldn’t understand the pain inside
Hold me, Hold me, Hold me like you're never gona hurt me
Hold me, Hold me, Hold me like you're never gona hurt me
Hold me, Hold me, Hold me like you're never gona hurt me
Hold me, Hold me, Hold me like you're never gona hurt me

Annie-Rose has a simple ethos when it comes to writing a song. It must have a pulse, it must feel nice to sing, and it must
bear a truthfulness about our human experiences. Her assured presence holds the audience gently as they move through moments of heartbreak, loneliness and elation....more
